YOGA IS FOR EVERY BODY!
What is Yoga?
Yoga is a form of exercise that originated in India, centuries ago, but many of its practices have been modified to suit contemporary needs and tastes.
Your Sugar Land Yoga instructor has a vast repertoire of exercises, and our Sugar Land yoga instructors are trained to add variations and modifications to make them suitable for all ages and fitness levels, from athletes to seniors. Yoga offers training for both the mind and body, improving performance through strength and flexibility exercises, and through relaxation and visualization techniques.
Why Yoga?
Yoga has been shown to increase energy levels, improve sleep, reduce stress, anxiety and depression, strengthen key core muscles for improved posture, improve flexibility and range of motion, increase muscle and bone density (helping prevent osteoporosis). Your Sugar Land Yoga instructor will help you get the most from your session.
How is Yoga done?
There are several forms of yoga – Hatha, Asthanga, Iyengar, Bikram, and others.
Yoga can be done privately, one-on-one, or in either small or large group settings. We advise that anyone interested in beginning a yoga program do some research and talk to our Sugar Land instructors and other participants to find the style that is right for you.
Who is Yoga for?
Even people with medical challenges can benefit from yoga, but you should check with your doctor before beginning any new exercise program.
All ages and fitness levels can benefit from both the mental and physical agility aspects of yoga.
Your My Personal Fitness Sugar Land Yoga instructor will develop a program to include:
-
Breathing exercises – energize and de-stress the body
-
Gentle warm-up exercises to lubricate the joints and slightly elevate blood flow to the muscles
-
Core body exercises to strengthen the muscles that support the spine
-
Body weight exercises to strengthen shoulders, back, legs and hips
-
Static Poses for strength and balance (poses that are held for several breaths or even a few minutes)
-
Dynamic movements for stamina and agility
-
Range of motion exercises for improved flexibility and joint health
-
Balancing poses for mental and physical balance and alignment
-
Relaxation and/ or meditation to soothe body and mind
What to expect from a yoga program or class:
Even gentle exercises require focus and concentration to perform correctly. Fatigue, sweat, and a feeling of “difficulty” are normal. Sharp or acute pain in muscles or joints is a sign that something is wrong. These movements should be discontinued and the problem should be discussed with your Sugar Land yoga instructor after class.
Some minor muscle soreness in the 2 – 3 days following a new yoga class or exercise is considered normal, and a sign that the muscles have been worked sufficiently to cause a favorable strength response. Talk to your Sugar Land yoga instructor for more guidance.
